So, would I recommend this show to you? If you want a drama that you can watch without really having to pay attention, you could watch this, or you could also fast forward to the Buja scenes because that will be worth your time. The story of the Winter General & Summer Fairy was interesting, and hats off to Sung Hyuk for pulling off the cross-dressing role superbly. Many times I was moved to tears from Buja’s scenes: her almost-love affair with the Pig, her gratitude to the Monkey for agreeing to release her from her zombie body, her profound regret for trying to eat Sang Jam whom she loved… Her goodbyes to everyone were oh so tender and heartbreaking. LSY played Buja perfectly: sweet and kind and hopeful despite being undead and rotting. LSY is gorgeous, and Buja brings out the protective hero in every male character of Hwayugi, and even Sang Jam. I only kept watching because of Buja and Lee Se Young. I’d say that the production was too ambitious for 20 episodes, too rushed, and a regrettable waste of everyone’s time.īecause I could not make heads or tails of the story and don’t wanna waste my time re-watching it in the hopes of understanding, let me just talk about three things that I can about this show.ġ.
There were too many pieces that did not quite fit together or were not necessary to the story. Currently you are able to watch A Korean Odyssey - Season 1 streaming on Netflix, Rakuten Viki, Netflix basic with Ads or for free with ads on Rakuten. I’m reminded of Big, which also left me confused. I was confused in the beginning and was still confused at the end.
Maybe it was the hype around the return of Lee Seung Gi, the production woes, or the fact that it was penned by the Hong sisters. Not really sure why I watched the first episode.
